Holly Houlton is a photographer and writer based in London, UK.

From April-October of 2021, she worked as a product photographer and content creator for the creative agency, Broody (sister company of Mother). Reporting to the creative team’s art directors and working alongside the marketing team, the job often involved switching between briefs for a variety of clients – the work produced can be see via the commercial page.

Houlton’s work mainly explores the subjects of people and place with a particular interest in the effects they have on one another in relation to experience and time. Using a personal approach, themes of intimacy, relationship and self-reflection are applied to interpret her surrounding environments. Specific attention to detail and light attempts to draw out the perhaps otherwise unseen and stimulate emotive contemplation.

Alongside her visual practice, she is a passionate writer on photography in both the journalistic and academic form. Houlton is a listed author at Professional Photo Magazine and regularly writes for and has been published by numerous other established magazines or platforms within the field.

Houlton has volunteered at Eastside Projects contemporary art gallery and the Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art Festival. She has also assisted professional photographers such as; Ian Farrell and Phillip Waterman.

More recently, she completed a Social Media Internship at the video production agency – Unity & Motion and is currently being mentored by Christiane Monarchi, founder of Photomonitor; who is supporting and developing new projects.

During November of 2020, Houlton founded and launched Now Tell Me. A writing platform dedicated to giving freelance and emerging writers on photography the freedom to write self-directed content. The writers’ works will be peer reviewed and realised as a collective digital zine.

Her full CV and references can be available upon request.

"Holly quickly got to grips with multiple briefs across several of Broody’s partners; shooting and editing assets independently, as well as working with us as a team on bigger shoots. It was a joy to work with her and to get to know her – both over Zoom when WFH and in person when the occasion allowed for it!"

– Alice and Joel, Creative Team at Broody

"I found Holly to be a very proactive contributor who was capable of coming up with ideas, adapting them and then following them through, to brief and on deadline. It was a pleasure to work with her and she clearly put a lot of time and effort into the commission we gave her."

— Terry Hope, Editor/Publisher, Professional Photo Magazine

"Holly recently helped provide copy for the Loupe magazine webshop. Her work involved summarising each Issue of the magazine into a short and engaging text. Holly was great to work with, completing each summary before the deadline given and responding well to feedback throughout. Holly has also contributed to the Loupe website, interviewing photographer JC Candanedo about his work in Catalonia, pursuing a line of questioning that provided increased insight into the project. We hope to be able to work with Holly again and wish her all the best as her career in this industry develops."

— Luke Archer, Editor/Publisher, Loupe Magazine
